COVID-19 Global Pandemic Update

Re:   Update from Provincial Health Requirements in accordance with WCB Guidelines,

To all Individuals Receiving Service, Families, Caregivers, and Stakeholders,

Our hope is that this letter finds you all well during this difficult time as we adjust to COVID-19 in our lives. 

As you may be aware, on November 19, 2020 the provincial health officer announced that the there was a “Public Safety Order under the Emergency Program Act” around mandatory use of masks.  On November 24, 2020, the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General issues an order requiring all British Columbians, 12 years of age and older, to wear masks in many indoor settings. 

We at Quesnel Community Living Association want to ensure that all persons who receive services, caregivers, shareholders and general public remain as safe as possible.  For this reason, on November 19, 2020 we began implementing “Mandatory Masks” in all our locations.

We are aware that there can be circumstances where this is not always possible.  Many of person’s receiving service are unable to manage wearing masks and for that reason it is important to ensure that the those who are able, do so. 

All staff have received a letter outlining the new Provincial Health Authority policy guidelines and mask policy for providing care to vulnerable populations.  All staff should be aware of the recent policy changes and requirement for mandatory masks.

We are asking that visitors limit the time they need to be on sites, that they check in first with staff.   Due to space limitation we are asking for no more than 6 persons at least 6 feet apart in a space at one time.  Due to the limited size of some of our rooms this may require visitors not being able to stay.

We ask that anyone experiencing COVID-type symptoms, will need to stay home and call 8-1-1 Health Link BC

·       Coughing

·       Shortness of Breath

·       Sneezing

·       Sore throat

If a person arrives sick ongoing or begins to experience unwellness, the person will need to leave the program.  Please ensure that we have current emergency numbers for QCLA to call.

We will be continuing with ongoing precautions for supporting those who are older and have higher health risks, by limiting outings, and finding alternative inclusion.  Everyone’s health and safety are our highest priority.

We are asking each person attending our programs, to bring their own masks, to be used in the community.  We do have masks available at each site if masks are forgotten.

Apartment Cluster

QCLA operates two residential settings - each with unique characteristics and dynamics but sharing the common theme of providing a comfortable and supportive environment to help residents achieve their highest level of independence.  Our main areas of support are:

  • Health and Personal Care

  • Building and Maintaining relationships with family, friends and co-workers
  • Skill Development in the home, community and workplace
  • Empowerment through encouraging input and choice making

QCLA's Apartment Cluster Complex is part of QCLA's main building, located above our main office  in West Quesnel. There are four (4) apartments, each allowing up to two (2) residents.  The tenants here are given varying levels of support according to their needs, twenty four (24) hours per day.  Staff's focus at this locationn is to teach daily life skills, including looking after their apartment.  Assistance is given with banking, shopping, and recreation to help each tenant reach their personal goals of independency.  The Apartment Cluster location has an elevator for accessibility along with it's large and bright stairwell.  Also, two (2) out of the four (4) apartments have direct access to a balcony area that is much enjoyed by all throughout the warmer months.  The location of the home allows it's residents to fully participate in their area making community access easy with the mall and downtown being within walking distance.

The Apartment Cluster - Supported to Semi-Supported Living in a Neighbourly Atmosphere.
